A little bit about me: This is the second time I run a marathon, again for a cause that pulls at my heart's strings...I'm still determined to Break the Silence and Stop the Abuse. I am committed to seeing that victims of sexual abuse and assault get the care and support they need and Northridge Hospital's Center for Assault Treatment Services (CATS) assures that.
Check out the note, broken into 2 photos (on the left), given to a nurse from an 8 year old brought to CATS.
THIS is my motivation to run again!!! To make sure that victims of sexual abuse, especially children, are cared for and supported in their healing journey.
Although I'm hoping Team CATS won't have to run in a storm again, I DO hope that with your help we can bring another kind of "storm"...One of love and support to survivors brought to CATS.
NORTHRIDGE HOSPITAL FOUNDATION wrote -
Every 2 minutes someone is sexually assaulted in the U.S. 60% of sexual assaults are never reported to the police. 2/3 of assaults are committed by someone known to the victim.
CATS (Center for Assault Treatment Services at Northridge Hospital) provides 24/7 services to victims of sexual assault and abuse of all ages in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys. Each year we serve 1,000 victims, 1/4 of them are children age 6 or younger. At CATS, victims are cared for in a nurturing environment with their safety and well being a primary concern.
CATS collects forensic evidence which helps law enforcement and the D.A.'s Office get the abusers off the street, and educates the community about the importance of child abuse reporting.
