DIASPORA COMMUNITY SERVICES wrote -
Diaspora Community Services (DCS) has formed 'Team Diaspora' to support the life saving and life changing work taking place at their offices everyday in Brooklyn, NY and in Port Au Prince, Haiti.
DCS is a social support agency that empowers families and individuals to maximize their abilities to succeed through culturally sensitive health promotion, family support services, and advocacy.
Founded in 1981 as the Haitian Women's Program, DCS changed their name in 2005 to reflect their expanding services. DCS provides low income and struggling immigrant populations in Central Brooklyn with a wide variety of life changing programs; they include a Maternal Group Home, HIV/AIDS programming , Case Management, Haitian Empowerment Programming, Women's Supportive Services, English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction, Nutrition Outreach, informative workshops, medical benefits assistance, youth programming and much more.
Over 3 years ago, DCS founded the Centre Medico Social de Port Au Prince where they provide a full range of medical services as well as recreational and educational programming for youth. In 2010, DCS responded to the the tragic earthquake in Haiti, ensuring medical and educational services continued. In the coming year, DCS plans to add additional educational programs including a library, expand medical services and further empower and uplift this struggling but resilient community.
Help support our ongoing efforts to fight poverty, support those suffering with HIV/AIDs, advocate for opportunities for women and girls, empower underserved populations in Brooklyn and empower the individuals in Port Au Prince, Haiti with medical and eduational programming!
