EVENT: Boston Marathon 2014
EVENT DATE: Apr 21, 2014
DAYS TO GO: 135
My brother Patrick and I are writing to inform you that we have been given the opportunity to run in the 118th Boston Marathon on April 21st, 2014. As many of you know, both of us were directly affected by the events surrounding the marathon last year. I was running for Team Eye and Ear and was stopped at mile 25.8. Pat was waiting for me at the finish line with our Nani as well as many other family and friends who were there to show support. The events that occurred that day helped us learn to cherish each day. Our relationships with family and friends have grown stronger and running continues to motivate us.
Last year, I raised $6,200 for Operation Airway and surpassed my goal of $5,000 with the support of family, friends, co-workers and many more. This year, we will again be running as part of the Pediatric group of Team Eye and Ear to raise money to support Operation Airway. We have challenged the goal from last year and are trying to raise $8,500. At Mass Eye and Ear, I am one of the nurses for Dr Hartnick, who is one the primary surgeons for this cause. I work as part of the Pediatric Aerodigestive Clinic at MEEI which cares for children with airway disorders. Operation Airway consists of a group of specialists from MEEI and MGH who travel to Ecuador. These physicians, nurses, anesthesoliogists and others perform life changing airway reconstructive surgery and postoperative care to children who cannot breathe or speak on their own.
Running a marathon is a once in lifetime goal, please help me reach my “once in lifetime opportunity that I get to do twice.” Patrick has also run another marathon, but neither one of us have crossed the finish line on Boylston Street. Any donation will help these children and get us to the finish. Help us help kids breathe. Thank you so much for your consideration!
