THE STORY:

I am running the 2013 Boston Marathon in support of the ongoing efforts to provide the highest level of care for children with airway and voice disorders. Donations will be used to support cutting edge research to improve the lives of children with breathing and speaking disorders. Furthermore, donations will support Operation Airway - a combined Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary / Massachusetts General Hospital for Children Pediatric Airway Surgery Mission to Ecuador. This unique mission brings together a combined team of pediatric otolaryngologists, pediatric anesthesiologists, pediatric intensivists, and pediatric nurses to Ecuador to perform airway reconstructive surgeries on children to have their tracheotomies safely removed allowing them to breathe without tracheostomies for the very first time.

On a personal note, as a pediatric otolaryngology fellow, I witnessed firsthand the boundless enthusiasm and expertise of the MEEI family which I have been able to carry to San Diego where I am serving in the US Navy. I am forever grateful to the institution and the MEEI family. I ran my first Boston Marathon with the team in 2011 and can’t imagine running Boston without them.
