Hello my friends,

On November 4th, 2012 I will be running the 2012 ING New York City Marathon as a part of the IM ABLE Foundation team. I met Chris Kaag through mutual friends several years ago.  I respect and admire the work he does as founder and Executive Director of the IM ABLE Foundation.  The mission of the IM ABLE Foundation is to remove obstacles that prevent people affected by disabilities from being physically active by providing grants, resources, fitness opportunities and motivation.  They change attitudes about the potential of disabled individuals by redefining what is possible.

Running is my passion so to be able to run and complete the 2012 ING New York City Marathon would be a tremendous accomplishment that I will carry for the rest of my life. Many people have told me that this marathon is great to run because of all the positive energy you receive from the people of New York.  IM ABLE is giving me this unique opportunity not only to run in this iconic race but more importantly to raise money for the IM ABLE Foundation. It’s been 10 years since I ran my last marathon; however I am a healthy 38-year-old woman with a true passion for running and will also have the IM ABLE mantra in my mind saying, “No excuses…Just move!”

I race with the hope of making a difference in the lives of many people, both disabled and able-bodied, to explore their potential and as Chris Kaag says, “dig deep and push on.”  Everyday more and more individuals and families are affected by disabilities, approximately 60,000 in Berks County alone.  Unfortunately 88% of people with disabilities are not physically active, due to the high cost of adaptive equipment and the lack resources and opportunities.  This inactivity leads to increased health issues, decreased social skills and less involvement in our community for the people with disabilities and their family members.  Your support will positively impact the lives of individuals and families affected by disabilities in our area.

My goal is to raise at least $2500.  All monies raised through my participation in the 2012 ING New York City Marathon will go directly to the IM ABLE Foundation.
