HERE'S THE STORY:
Kortrney Rose Gillette was a nine year old outgoing child who was healthy one day and a brain tumor patient the next. Shortly after her ninth birthday her mother noticed that Kortney's eye had turned in. The family immediately brought her to an eye doctor and after an MRI found out the shocking and horrible news that Kortney had one of the rarest forms of brain tumor a child can get. They were told the tumor was inoperable and Kortney had a less than 2% chance of survival for five years. Kortney died 4 months after diagnosis. Kortney's mother immediately started The Kortney Rose Foundation to turn her grief into action to help other children with brain tumors in Kortney's name through the promise of research.
In the past four years the foundation has donated over $378,000 to brain tumor research, and in 2009 had legislation passed naming May as Brain Tumor Awareness Month in the State of New Jersey.
2011 will be the third year that The Kortney Rose Foundation is fortunate to have a TEAM KORTNEY in the ING NYC Marathon. This event is very importatnt to our annual fundraising effort and we hope you will HELP US HELP DOCTORS HELP KIDS and GET BRAIN TUMORS OFF KIDS' MINDS! Please give what you can.
