EVENT: 2012 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 16, 2012
THE STORY:
I am honored to be a member of Team Penobscot, running in the Boston Marathon 2012. I hope that you will sponsor our team as a gesture of support for us and the Penobscot River Restoration Project, which will receive all proceeds from this fundraising effort.
I have been a Penobscot Indian Nation community member for twenty five years, since I married my wife, Kim (who is a Penobscot) in 1987. My children Ganessa, Lloyd and Leya and two grandchildren are tribal members, as well.
As a community member and as Chief of Police for the Penobscot Nation, I have come to learn a lot about the relationship between the tribe and the river. They share more than a name—the river is the people and the people are the river. It gives me great pride to be wearing a Team Penobscot shirt, running with Dale and Barry to represent a great community.
I hope that this effort I am putting in will be one small part of the successful restoration of the Penobscot River. The partners behind the restoration project aim to remove two dams from the river and build a new fish passage at a third dam, and all of that will occur while energy generation in the watershed is maintained by upgrading other dams nearby. The end result will be many miles of habitat restored for migrating fish like Atlantic salmon and river herring.
Thanks again for your support!
