THE STORY:

I was born and grew up in Sudan. At age 14 I left and was not able to return until I went with Project Education Sudan in 2006. Now I'm working-with PES-to help South Sudanese leaders build schools in their villages.
The Sudanese have a passion for education, but decades of civil war have decimated the country's school system and it's buildings. Many hold classes under trees when it's not raining.
Now is their chance! The peace accord of 2005, and the overwealming vote to form a new country (elections held in January of 2011) is offering the opportunity to rebuild. Some of the "Lost Boys", displaced by the war came to the US ten years ago. Now we are helping them reconnect with their families and together build schools. We are helping them drill wells for clean drinking water and we are supplying grinding mills to the PTAs, so young girls can go to school, instead of stay at home to grind grain.
The excitement in the villages where we have friends and partners is huge!
