HERE'S THE STORY:
The Lake Tanganyika Floating Health Clinic: There are times in your life when you meet people that move you. Well, Amy Lehman is that person for me. Amy Lehman, MD, MBA is the founder of The Lake Tanganyika Floating Health Clinic. Amy is a dear friend of mine whom I have known for over10 years and it is because of her mission to build The LTFHC ship that I am inspired to create Team Tanganyika. The LTFHC's goal is to provide mobile health care for 3 million people that live along the remote coast of The Lake Tanganyika basin in Central Africa. These communities either have no access or very limited access to basic care. Please take 17 minutes and watch the short film to see for yourself , learn and be inspired by this very important mission.
WHAT IS MY STORY:
On Oct 10th this year I will be lacing up my running shoes with my teammate and friend
Kristi Battalini to run the Chicago Marathon. This will be the 1st of 4 endurance events that we will compete in the next 7 months to raise funds for LTFHC. We realize these back to back races will be a physical, mental and emotional challenge. But after watching the film about the LTFHC and seeing the suffering. These marathons are nothing compared to the unnecessary sacrifices that the 3 million people make daily that have no access to care.
Lake Tanganyika is bordered by four countries. We have decided to honor those countries in this amazing mission by running 3 marathons and a 50k relay race:
1.) For the Democratic Republic of the Congo:
The Chicago Marathon, Chicago IL 10/10/2010
2.) For Tanzania:
The Huff 50k Trail Relay, Huntington IN 12/18/2010
3.) For Burundi:
The Austin Livestrong Marathon, Austin TX 2/20/2010
4.) For Zambia:
The Big Sur International Marathon, Monterey, CA 5/1/2011
We are very excited for this challenge!
Who are we recruiting:
1.) Any Runner, Biker , Swimmer or Athlete that is competing in a race of any kind or length can do so for Team Tanganyika. You can either join Kristi and I in any of the Races above or pick your own event! Or Join our Team as a non athlete and raise $ for an amazing cause!
2.) Just by donating you are cheering us on. Any amount is helpful. Thank You!
