Team Tusk USA London Marathon
THE STORY:
Hi, thanks for visiting my fundraising page for the 2012 London Marathon.
I am again running this year in support of the African charity, Tusk. I was first exposed to Tusk while running the 2009 Safaricom Half Marathon through the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in the foothills of Mt. Kenya (see http://www.lewa.org/support-lewa/safaricom-marathon/).
For the 2009 race, my teammates and I spent several days prior to the race visiting the many important projects Tusk runs in Africa. We were welcomed to remote villages where Tusk was implementing crucial clean drinking water initiatives. We went to communities where Tusk was providing the funding for building schools and supplying teachers into areas that had not previously had formal education structures in place. We lived the original purpose of Tusk through staying at the heart of their idigenous wildlife conservation effort on the Lewa Preserve itself.
The experience was truly a life changing event. The fact that we were able to visit the Tusk projects and see how the donations were being spent made it even more powerful.
