The Future of Water DEADLINE TO GIVE: Dec 31, 2012
“Water is medicine.”
~ Karen Nilsen, M.D.
Children need water, food, and shelter ~ plus, of course, a lot of love and encouragement ~ to grow and thrive. So when children drink water that is unsafe ~ on a daily basis ~ it literally changes their life. It alters their future.
In a recent (2012) study of tap water in schools in Calcutta, India, Splash found that 71% of water (directly from the schools' faucets) tested positively for total coliform and 55% tested positively for E.coli. This is water in schools (!) just to be clear.
For decades now, there have been noble intentions and efforts in global water relief. But children have been left in the margins. The shape of the water crisis is different for kids.
The Future of Water includes a laser focus on kids, in urban areas, in extreme poverty. It affects girls becoming women, kids being kids, and young people staying in school (rather than missing out on education due to stomach bugs).
The Future of Water includes us all. We can make a huge difference, right away, for years to come.
