THE STORY:
NOTE: 100% of the net proceeds from TopSpin LA will benefit our local non-profit organizations--City Year Los Angeles and School on Wheels--via FJC, an IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) charitable organization. TopSpin is a participant in the FJC Fiscal Sponsorship Program.
TopSpin LA goes to the support of the following beneficiaries:
City Year partners with public schools to provide full-time, targeted intervention for students most at-risk. Our teams of young leaders support students – before, during, and after school – through in-class tutoring, mentoring, and after school programs that keep them in school and on track to graduate. By the end of the ’09-’10 school year, 79% of City Year Los Angeles students were less likely to drop out.
School on Wheels’ volunteer tutors give hope, educational assistance and support to the thousands of homeless children living in Southern California. We provide one-on-one tutoring for homeless children who live in shelters, motels, group foster homes and on the streets. In addition to weekly tutoring and mentoring, every student receives a backpack, school supplies, and uniforms; students get assistance enrolling in school and with locating and filing school records; and each student receives a toll-free phone number for around-the-clock School on Wheels’ support.
