THE STORY:
UNITED WAY FOR SOUTHEASTERN MICHIGAN wrote -
How many mothers are spending this Mother’s Day feeling guilty because they know they have no option other than to send their children to a school that isn’t preparing children for the future?
At United Way, we believe that every child is entitled to a quality education, regardless of zip code.
Breakthrough programs that have proven successful in other regions, like the High School Turnaround Initiative, are being implemented now in some of our region’s most underperforming schools. By instituting site-based management, and by breaking large schools into smaller schools, we are changing the odds for thousands of mothers and their families across metro Detroit.
But these programs are not free, and, quite frankly, we need help in securing the funds needed to continue this good work in our low-performing high schools. That is why we are asking 200 people to join us in raising $1,000 each to ensure that all metro Detroiters have access to a quality education, a stable family income and basic needs, like food - the building blocks of a good quality of life.
Will you be one of the 200 and help us raise $200,000 in the next 20 days?
The money you raise today will help ensure that, soon, mothers throughout our region will not spend another Mother’s Day worrying about the quality of their children’s education.
