HERE'S THE STORY:
So here's the gist.
On January 25th, I turned 25.
When my family and friends asked me what I was doing for my Golden Birthday, I like many budding social entrepreneurs before me, decided to forgo gifts and instead, raise money for a cause that has pulled at me for as long as I can remember. I am starting a higher education scholarship fund for women through an organization that is seriously changing the playing field for girls in the developing world, Edge of Seven. What started as a 25 day campaign to raise 2500.00 by my 25th birthday is now in a process of transformation. It's on its way to becoming a fund for girls that will outlast my birthday, leap year, medical school and accompany me during my growth into a physician and beyond.
The scholarship will be awarded to young women completing college (12th grade) where I volunteered this past summer with the organization, Edge of Seven. There, we completed a hostel so that girls would be granted the opportunity to obtain merely a high school education.
It is my hope that this fund will motivate talented young women in this region to pursue their dreams that only higher education can fulfill and empower them with the tools needed to better serve their community.
