EVENT: World AIDS Day Detroit

EVENT DATE: Dec 01, 2011

THE STORY:

We are the Class of 2015 and we will do everything we can to Get to ZERO by 2015.

ZERO AIDS RELATED DEATHS. ZERO NEW INFECTIONS. ZERO DISCRIMINATION.

HERE'S THE STORY:

This year, the 30th year of AIDS in the US will be the MOST POWERFUL World AIDS Days that Detroit has ever witnessed.  Join us and stand together to show the City of Detroit and the world that we care about HIV/AIDS and that it hasn’t gone away and continues to seriously impact many, many lives.

December 1st is World AIDS Day and is one of the most recognized international health days and a key opportunity to raise awareness, commemorate those who have passed on, and celebrate victories such as increased access to treatment and prevention services.

World AIDS Day Detroit will feature Keynote Presenter Jeanne White-Ginder.  Ms. White-Ginder is the mother RYAN WHITE, a teenage boy with hemophilia and HIV/AIDS, who became a national spokesperson for HIV/AIDS after he was kicked out of his school and run out of his hometown becauase of his HIV status, a virus he contracted from contaminated blood products used to treat his hemophilia.

His mom, Jeanne White-Ginder, has continued Ryan’s legacy of education and compassion for all those afflicted with HIV/AIDS and their loved ones.  We commemorate World AIDS Day this year just 5 days before Ryan would have celebrated his 40th birthday.  We are privileged and honored to have Ms. White-Ginder here with us this historic year.

This year DO SOMETHING on World AIDS Day and show the world that you care!  Together we make the world a better place for all those affected by HIV/AIDS.

**World AIDS Day Detroit is a partnership of existing non-profits. The Hemophilia Foundation of Michigan (HFM) is the WADD fiduciary and will issue tax receipts for charitable contributions to WADD. HFM was chosen as fiduciary because it is fiscally strong with an annual budget of over 2.5 million dollars and has been named one of the best managed non-profits by Crain’s Detroit Business Magazine. All contributions made to WADD are restricted for use by the WADD committee and any net proceeds will be returned to organizations that provide services to the HIV/AIDS community.
