Friends of the Ann Arbor Skatepark
Dug
PROJECT ORGANIZER: Trevor
HERE'S THE STORY:
In 1995, sick of $50 Ann Arbor skateboarding tickets as a college student, I organized a group of skaters to advocate for a public skatepark. We ended up skating instead of meeting, and got a lot more tickets, but enjoyed some amazing all-city street sessions!
In 2005, expecting the birth of my first child, I gave into some deranged nesting instinct and tried to organize again, horrified by the idea of raising a child in a city without a skatepark. Then my son was born, and nothing else really mattered. :-)
In 2007, Trevor and I re-launched the Ann Arbor Skatepark Action Committee which now includes many non-skaters, institutional partners, and thousands of supporters across the city. We've got the land, team, plan, and political will. Now we just need your support to build the world-class park Ann Arbor's young (and old) have needed for decades!
HERE'S THE OFFER:
For anyone who donates $10 and up through me, I will make you a 5-minute drawing of whatever family-friendly subject you want (as long as it involves dinosaurs, trains, or skateboards) and post the photos here.
For anyone who donates $50 and up through me, I will make my kid do it. And time him. No laws against that, right? I mean, he's gotta work for it too.
Can you feel the love already?
