WHAT WE DO:
Help About Productions premiere a Chicana coming-of-age story this May 2012!
* Give highest-risk high school students the opportunity to broaden their education!
*Highlight the talents of Latino actors, musicians, and designers!
Over the last two years, About Productions has been developing Evangeline, the Queen of Make-Believe. Created by Louie Pérez of Los Lobos and About Productions’ Artistic Director Theresa Chavez and Associate Director Rose Portillo, Evangeline features the songs of Grammy Award-winning Los Lobos songwriters David Hidalgo and Louie Pérez.
Set in the late 1960s, Evangeline spreads her wings as a recent high school graduate. As East L.A. begins its own civil rights movement in the form of the high school student walk outs, she lands in the distinctly different world of the Hollywood art and music scene. How will Eva reconcile her own individual journey with the need to hold onto her relationships with her family and her neighborhood?
Evangeline highlights the talents of Latino actors, musicians and designers. Tickets and educational workshops will be offered free-of-charge to our Young Theaterworks schools in East Los Angeles and Pasadena to ensure that this story is passed on to at-greatest risk youth and their families.
We are honored to have received matching grants for the premiere from the National Endowment for the Arts and the L.A. County Arts Commission, along with a prestigious grant from the National Association of Latino Arts & Culture. At this critical juncture we are now turning toindividuals to invest in the the premiere's impact.
Join us in bringing this rich, often unrepresented history of L.A. to life!
I got tickets to Evangeline from KPCC for free so I am paying you directly for our enjoyment and astonishment. It is the best theater I have seen in forever. I am certain that everything About is involved in is equal to this excellent production.
