I am an education specialist currently employed at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital where I participate in assessing the cognitive skills of cancer survivors in hopes of understanding and mitigating the long-term side effects of radiation and chemotherapy. For the last four years I have been working with Memphis "Beat the Odds" Foundation (MBTO) Awards as part of the planning commitee. In that time I have been the event coordinator twice and this year I am heading youth outreach and fellowship. MBTO is a non-profit that recognizes the efforts of youth who are overcoming significant life adversity and are giving back to their communities through service. MBTO says "you are not alone" and we commend you for your strength and perseverance. I have seen these young people weather trials that can and have crushed adults. Despite this, these inspirational youth have focused on their studies and their communities, using their hard won lessons to benefit others.
