The University of Wisconsin ~ Madison and Design Coalition are partnering with Earth Tipi to offer a 5 day intensive workshop that will teach innovative solutions to affordable housing which focuses on natural and highly energy efficient. The resulting project will also be a work/live structure for Earth Tipi offices and intern housing.
Help raise funds to sponsor Lakota in this incredible 5 day workshop!
The Pine Ridge Indian Reservation is home to nearly 40,000 residents. Appropriate housing is a major issue and with a housing shortage of an estimated 6000 homes, many residents end up living in over crowded conditions with up to 30 people per residence.
Students will...
~ help build walls using an advanced, resource-efficient framing system
~ mix and install high-performance straw-clay infill
~ install an earthen floor
~ gain the skills to confidently plaster walls using earthen mixes
~ learn how to evaluate raw materials
~ learn the details to make natural construction more durable & energy-efficient
This is a paid course that costs $850 per student and includes three meals per day for the duration of the course. Each student will also leave with a full set of professionally drawn architectural plans to build their very own affordable natural home or start their own business!
Please help us raise funds towards this build so that we can offer full scholarships to Lakota tribal members. Any additional funds raised will go to assist with transportation to and from the workshop.
