AGE Africa currently provides secondary school scholarships, comprehensive Career Guidance Education and Life Skills programming to 120 young Malawian women in public high schools and two in University.
“Since the beginning, I couldn't believe that I could go to secondary school. Nobody was willing to help me with my education. When your program came to our country, all my dreams were achieved. It’s my desire to go to college/university because I want people to know from me that even a village girl can achieve something very great.” –Paulina, Bachelor's Candidate & former AGE Scholar
Malawi is country where less than 7% of girls finish high school, and less than .3% of women attend university. By comparison, 98% of AGE Africa’s students finish all four years of high school and last year 65% of our graduating class qualified for higher education. AGE Africa’s achievements are the result of an innovative approach that combines scholarships with extra-curricular programming designed to nurture the capacity of each young woman to be self-confident, and resourceful adults. Our girls graduate with the ability to access educational opportunity, earn income, and most importantly, to advocate for their own life choices in communities where few women are able to deviate from the norm.
