THE STORY:
Alezandra Russell wrote -
As Chief Contractor+Founder of Recycled Child Project |RCP|, I declared war on sex-trafficking and child prostitution in 2010 when I made Chiang Mai’s Red Light District my office. Devoutly committed to Latin American studies while at Pepperdine University as well as an avid student traveler, I first brought my energy to Discovery Channel Communications and then on to the Latin American Youth Center, a DC-based organization for at-risk youth. Following three years of frontline social work and outreach in DC, I took my social protest to Thailand after seeing the social inequality and lack of services available to male victims of sex-trafficking.
In 2010 I locked-in over 27,000 travel miles and over a half-a-dozen passport stamps when I inaugurated Recycled Child Project in Chiang Mai’s notorious Red Light District. The RCP Youth Center was established as a safe haven within the red light district where boys could have immediate and informal access to various services and supports while shielding them from sex-tourists, homelessness and hunger. Since March 2010, I have built a great movement of support and the Center has demonstrated tremendous outcomes which include 3,540 hot meals prepared | 1,440 hours of youth center time | 845 hours of case management and 440 hours of Instructional English.
In addition to my efforts in Thailand, I am working closely with DC policy-makers to implement and pass legislation surrounding the prevention of international child-trafficking. Realizing the great potential of students to be modern-day change-makers, I look forward to initiating the Campus Awareness Campaign which will provide an entry point for youth involvement in fighting sex-trafficking.
I've been invited to Summit at Sea event taking place on April 8 - April 11. Summit at Sea awards females for their outstanding ideas, work and passion. Please donate any amount to help me attend the event.
