Bolivia is one of the poorest and least developed countries in Latin America, where 64 percent of the people live at or below the poverty level. Indigenous and rural inhabitants and, amongst these, children, are the groups most affected by extreme poverty and they remain today the most vulnerable. For the thousands of indigenous people living in the rural areas of Bolivia, lack of access to clean water, agricultural development, health care and education perpetuate a cycle of poverty that is daunting. This deadly cycle continues as many families migrate toward already overcrowded urban centers. Desperate to find work and a future for their families, sadly, many end up living on the streets. There they exist in deplorable conditions often resulting in high levels of disease, greater poverty, child abuse and abandonment. External aid is often their only hope for survival.
For over 25 years, Amistad Mission has been addressing these challenges in Christ's name by finding lasting ways to improve the lives of the poor and vulnerable. Through our children's village and our rural development programs, Amistad Mission is responding to the needs in Bolivia, actively and prayerfully seeking solutions for the root causes of poverty and abuse. With the aid of our Bolivian partners and North American volunteers and churches, Amistad fosters change in communities and the lives of individuals--one child, one family, one village at a time.
