Last month a group of 12 high school students from our local YMCA took the challenge to go on a service and discovery trip to Senegal Africa. We depart on July 16 - August 2nd. Our trip will be with the YMCA of Seattle's Black Achievers Program. Not only is this a challenge in service it is also a challenge for all of us who plan to go. Our parents don't have the money to send us. We are all determined to go and so we are thinking of as many ways as we can to raise the money. Together we are trying to raise $15,000. It costs $3,400 for each one of us to go. The airfare is most of that costs. We will stay in hostels and some of the students we meet in Senegal have invited us to stay in their homes too.
Yes, we'll do the usual car washes and cleaning out garages and asking our friends and relatives to help us with contributions. We also want to reach out tp people who don't know us but who think that people helping people and learning more about each other is important to having a better world to live in.

You may ask who are these students? Well here's a little bit about us.
We are 7 females; 5 males; 4 want to pick mangoes from a tree; we attend 5 different high schools; 3 want to return to their homeland since coming to America in the last 5 years; 2 are extremely afraid of bugs; all are filled with anticipation of what they will see and learn!
