BENEFITING: Carr Educational Foundation

EVENT: Bay to Breakers 2012

THE STORY:

I am running this race with Rose Buda from Daraja Academy in Kenya to promote the mission of this amazing school. Rose will be running the equivalent of Bay to Breakers in Kenya on Daraja's campus.

Rose is a 9th grader at Daraja Academy. She grew up in a small village with her seven siblings. Her parents were too poor to feed all her family, so she went to live with her grandparents. Unfortunately she then lost both her mother and her father. Daraja gave her an opportunity of a lifetime. It offered her a free education that would help her escape from the violence of clashing tribes in her village and will help guide her to achieve her goal of becoming a teacher. If she had not found Daraja Academy, she would be, “home with [her] grandparents getting ready to be married,” as she put it.

Daraja Academy is a free, all-girl, secondary school. Their goal is to provide education, shelter, food, and support to, "Kenyan girls with top academic scores and exceptional leadership skills but no means to continue their education." Your donations will go directly to the school. Just $25 buys one uniform for a girl at Daraja, $45 buys a girl all her school supplies for one year, $100 buys a girl her meals for an entire year. So, please help me to raise money for Rose and other girls just like her at Daraja Academy, they need our support.
