Figured it was about time to update my rise since most of you have read this multiple times... ;)
Some facts about me:
1. I follow Jesus Christ.
2. The little girl in the photo is my munchkin and foster sis, Ana.
3. I spend most of my time working in a youth minstry, tutoring children who have dyslexia, and coordinating events with 4others (www.4others.org) to fight poverty.
4. I love rooting for the underdog, which is also seen in my movie tastes since some of my favorites are Miracle, Blindside, Cinderella Man, Remember the Titans, Finding Nemo... ;)
5. There are some things that make me angry... like learning that 1 child dies every 5 seconds from hunger-related causes. Of those who survive, many suffer from stunted growth, blindness, and mental retardation... all because they can't eat. Get the hunger facts.
Note: When you hunger, not only does it take away your chances of survival, but it also takes away the quality of your life. Every day is consumed by the need to find food. There is no time for education, work, or play. "The cycle is vicious--the poor are hungry and their hunger keeps them poor."
6. I believe we can help break that cycle. Scientists from Cargill and General Mills have developed a rice-based food that provides key nutrients to bring a starving child to health. And each meal costs only 24 cents! In other words, for $44, we can provide a child 6 months of food.
On April 27 & 28, we're hosting our city's 2nd Food 4others MobilePack. This is a two-day event where we hope to bring together 1,200 volunteers to hand-pack 250,000 meals for starving children in developing countries. Between now and then, we're raising the neccessary $60K for these meals. (And get this: if we raise more, we can pack more!)
