HERE'S THE STORY:
I am participating as a member of the Krewe of Vulcan for the 2012 Mardi Gras Masquerade. As a part of the Krewe, I will be raising funds for Kid One Transport, a nonprofit organization that provides transportation to medical appointments for needy children and expectant mothers.
15 years ago a young firefighter from Hoover Alabama was doing volunteer work in one of the poorest communities in the state when he met a young boy who had never spoken a word in his life. The boy had never visited a physician of any kind because his parents, who lived well below the poverty line, had never owned a vehicle.
Realizing that the child needed medical attention the firefighter loaded the little boy in his car and drove him to Children’s Hospital. There the doctors discovered a lesion on the boy’s brain. The lesion was removed and, with the help of a therapist the boy learned to speak.
For most of us, transportation is a given. I know for me personally before I got involved with Kid One transportation was something I often took for granted. Kid One Transport is a non profit organization that provides transportation to medical, dental and mental health care services for children and expectant mothers in need throughout central and north central Alabama.
Please help support me in an effort to raise money for Kid One Transport. Your donation will help Kid One ensure that the most vulnerable and needy among us are not abandoned due to their circumstances.
The male and female Krewe member who raise the most money will be crowned King and Queen of the Krewe of Vulcan at the 2012 Mardi Gras Masquerade event - February 17th, 2012 at the Summit Club. Please help me in my efforts to be crowned Queen and raise much needed funds for Kid One Transport, so that no child ever has to forego medical care because of a lack of transportation.
