The work of the Women’s Heart Center at Cedars-Sinai is vital. Did you know that heart disease takes the lives of more women than all cancers combined? Can you imagine? I was so surprised when I learned this.

The symptoms of a heart attack are often different in women than in men. But for decades, women have been treated for cardiovascular disease based on medical research done on men.

How is this possible? Women are different physiologically from men—and we are paying a terrible price for this knowledge gap. Because of these staggering statistics, I am committed to taking on this epidemic, and I need all of your help. I hope to raise $10M dollars (of which I will match up to $5M) for research, treatment and education on women’s heart disease.

I was thrilled to learn that the brilliant Dr. C. Noel Bairey Merz, MD, is conducting the proper research and educating women and physicians about cardiovascular disease right in my own backyard—at the Cedars-Sinai Women’s Heart Center.

The research at the Women’s Heart Center is revolutionary. Few institutions in the country are so focused on how heart disease presents itself differently in women. The Center is changing how women are diagnosed, treated, and educated about heart disease. And their work is helping women everywhere.

But this is not just about women. The latest research at the Center on women’s stem cells is showing that these cells may not only help a woman’s heart, but a man’s as well.

I think science is finally revealing what women have known all along!
