Thank you again, so very much, for donating to our Earth Day Challenge contest! The last few minutes of the contest were literally harrowing, our hearts felt like they would pound out of our chest while hitting refresh after refresh after refresh. We seriously wondered if we would make it, with other groups coming up from behind and out of nowhere with lightening speed. Support our mission by creating your own fundraiser.

In a world where so many look away, Bat World Sanctuary is on the front line to end the abuse and destruction of bats. We are recognized as the world’s leader in bat care standards and cutting-edge rehabilitation treatments, and we created specific guidelines for excellence in bat education programs that are used worldwide.

Each year we rescue thousands of bats that might otherwise die. Lifetime sanctuary is given to non-releasable bats, including those that are orphaned, injured, confiscated from the illegal pet trade and retired from zoos and research facilities. Bat World Sanctuary was founded in 1994 and is a 501c3 non-profit, all volunteer organization.

Please help us build a new Bat World!

The first phase (habitat for wild bats) is already completed!: The Bat Castle. We need your help to complete the second phase, a new sanctuary for non releasable bats:

The new Bat World facility will include expansive indoor-outdoor flight enclosures for the bats, and will be large enough to accept more bats who are relinquished from the exotic pet trade as well as those who are be retired from zoos and research (see plans here). In the past three years dozens of bat zoo exhibits have closed, leaving hundreds of bats in dire need of sanctuary. Sadly, many of these bats end up in the exotic pet trade where their 25 year life expectancy is often cut short to less than a year (read more about “pet bats” here). Bat World desperately needs to expand in order to take in more of these helpless animals, before a worse fate befalls them.

The new facility will also to be capable of housing assurance colonies of bat species in jeopardy of extinction due to White Nose Syndrome (WNS). Bat World Sanctuary is the only facility to successfully maintain a reproductive colony of insectivorous bats for almost two decades, and we are the only bat conservation organization currently stepping up to the plate to house assurance colonies of bats in peril. We have the expertise to house several species of bats and keep them safe until a cure for WNS is found and the environment is cleansed.
