WHAT WE DO:

BayKids empowers children facing medical challenges to find joy through the art of filmmaking. Working in partnership with hospitals in the San Francisco bay area, BayKids teaches digital filmmaking skills to hospitalized children. Through our programs, children discover their own unique voice and experience the healing power of self-expression. But don't just take our word for it, our filmmakers are our biggest fans. BayKid Sarah just finished her movie and wrote this message to BayKids....

A good friend once told me, “Courage is looking fear right in the eye and saying, “Get the hell out of my way, I’ve got things to do.”  My Baykids movie allows me to try to embody this phrase on good days and even on bad days.  On good days, I watch my movie and say to myself, “Wow, look at what I got through.”  On bad days, I watch my movie and say, “If you can get through that, then this will just be another chapter you will have to add.”  So when I get scared I try to think of my disease as nothing more than a movie that needs some serious editing.  Edit out the bad parts.  Smooth out rocky procedures with the iMovie 09 special “stabilizing” effect.  When the Mac “spinning beach ball” appears when the computer is about to crash…that is just like the sinking feeling of the word “relapse.”  Add transitions to glue little bits of fear together to make a long clip of courage.  Then quickly hit the save button to feel the satisfaction and hope in the word “remission.” Creating this movie has not only opened up a whole new world that can be accessed from either home or a hospital bed, but also has provided a huge motivation and distraction from some difficult times.

Thank you so much for the vote and the comments...but I'm going to have to kindly disagree with you about the future in Pantomiming. I think there's real growth potential in the miming industry. Really though, there can never be too many. If Snookie can make it to the big time, so can us mimes.
