EVENT: Build a Boma
THE STORY:
This last March I was in Kenya. I went with friends to learn more about the work in biodiversity that Edward Norton was doing with the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust. He gave me a tour of the work they are doing with the Maasai. We visited schools, clinics and met game scouts. The Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust works hand in hand with the Maasai to protect biodiversity between the 2 national parks in Southern Kenya.
After seeing everything we all decided that together we could accomplish something that the Maasai have never had. We are going to build a boma (a traditional home) that is designed to help serve the disabled people in the tribe
Unfortunately, members of the Maasai community who are born with a disability are often shunned and hidden away from sight. By providing them with a home that is built with their needs in mind and also training them in beadwork, we hope to shine a light on this group and help them feel like essential members of the community.
Please help us make this happen. It's expensive to build in this area but we think this is something if we all work together we can get done.
