Our Mission
Support our mission by creating your own fundraiser.
Founded in 1966, Boston Partners in Education enhances the academic achievement and nurtures the personal growth of Boston's public school students by providing them with focused, individualized in-school volunteer support.
Boston Partners in Education has tutored and mentored K-12 students in the Boston Public Schools for 45 years. Our trained volunteers, who serve as academic mentors, help students gain the skills, self-confidence, and the motivation they need to succeed in school and in life.
We are working to close the achievement gap. Students with academic mentors improve their scores on Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) exams, develop a love for reading and math, and, most importantly, stay in school and graduate!
Teachers and mentors report that students receiving extra attention during the school day show an increased interest in school, improved academic performance in math and literacy, enhanced self-esteem, and a better work ethic.
Boston Partners in Education’s unique model of recruiting, screening, training, matching, and
supporting academic mentors who not only tutor, but also build a bond with their students over time, has a proven track record of success.
During the 2010-2011 academic year, we matched 3,750 students in 64 schools throughout the city with 668 volunteers. Three-quarters of our volunteers are matched with students one-on-one or in small groups.
