One of the things I said I always wanted to do when I turned 40 was to run the Boston Marathon. I am now 42 and I have decided.....this is the year! I had recently started running again with a close friend and colleague when another close friend of mine, Pamela Civins, let me know that I could run the Boston Marathon to raise money for Boston Partners in Education (www.bostonpartners.org) where Pamela serves as Director. I was a volunteer for Boston Partners over a decade ago when I was placed in a bilingual school in East Boston. It was this experience that motivated me to look for a full time teaching position as a bilingual teacher so I think it is a great fit.

Boston Partners in Education has tutored and mentored K-12 students in the Boston Public Schools for over 45 years. They have trained volunteers, who serve as academic mentors, help students gain the skills, self-confidence, and the motivation they need to succeed in school and in life.

During the 2009-2010 academic year, we matched 5,821 students in 64 schools throughout the city with 895 volunteers. 75% of our volunteers are matched with students one-on-one or in small groups.
