Every year, after watching the NYC Marathon I promise myself that I will run it the following year. This November I'm finally running it and am thrilled to be raising money for my friends at the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust. I got involved with the Trust during a visit to Kenya in 2010. Parashi, our Maasai guide, actually ran the NYC marathon the year before--it was his first time leaving Kenya and he had never actually owned a pair of shoes or run on pavement!
Campi ya Kanzi is a unique project by husband and wife team Luca Belpietro and Anotella Bonomi, whose goal was to build a partnership with the local Maasai as a way to protect their cultural heritage and local wildlife. They have dedicated their lives to protecting this fragile ecosystem and demonstrating that conservation is a means of profitable survival.
