Camp Okizu is held every summer at Berry Creek in Northern CA. For not only children battling cancer but they offer a sibling camp for brothers and sisters and also a family camp.
I was one of those siblings who attended Camp Okizu when I was young, my brother who battled Leukemia attended Camp Okizu for 2 years in a row had the most amazing time there. It's a place for children to forget that they are sick, and to be "normal" for 9 days. For siblings it's a place to bond with other siblings and connect on a level deeper than just a summer camp.
Camp Okizu is free so it takes a lot of donations to keep it going! They never turn a child away and in 2009 they saw a 20% increase of families in need. The counselors, doctors and nurses all volunteer their services and take vacation time to be there.
After a recent news report that camp Okizu is having to put a hold on building a new Arts & Crafts building for the children I wanted to take a step up and help in any way I can and you know you want to help too! $5, $10, $15 etc - every time you donate you are making a difference!
