Supporting the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center
CCBF has helped the Division grow into one of the most comprehensive programs of its kind in the United States. With CCBF’s support, the Division boasts the nation’s largest thalassemia clinic, the most extensive hemophilia center in metropolitan New York, and the country’s largest center for research and care for Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). Each year, our doctors treat over 1,000 patients through more than 10,000 in-patient and out-patient visits. Thanks to CCBF's support, no child is ever turned away from services, regardless of his or her ability to pay.
Ground-breaking Research
Support from the CCBF has helped position the Division at the forefront of advanced research and clinical investigation. With sponsorships from the National Institutes of Health and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Maternal Child Health Bureau, the Division conducts translational research by ensuring that breakthroughs made in the laboratories are applied to better treatments and cures for patients in the clinic. Today, work supported by CCBF has led to effective treatments and therapies that are enhancing the quality of life for patients suffering from childhood cancers and blood disorders.
Training Future Leaders
NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center is internationally known as a leader in the training and education of young physicians who wish to pursue a practice in pediatric hematology and oncology. In collaboration with Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, the hospital sponsors a three-year fellowship program in which developing physician-scientists are rigorously trained in the diagnosis and treatment of blood disorders and cancers, as well as in the conduct of clinical and/or laboratory investigation. The Division has helped train over 165 research fellows thus far, all of whom have been placed at prestigious hospitals and institutions, including Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Children's Hospital at Montefiore, Harvard Medical School, among others.
Make a donation today to help CCBF make a significant impact on the lives of children suffering from cancer and blood disorders!
