HERE'S THE STORY:
Chess for Success (CFS) is a non-profit educational program that uses chess to help K-8 students build and develop skills that will help them to be successful in school and life.
We operate chess clubs in elementary and middle schools where at least 35% of the children qualify for free and reduced-price lunches.
In the 2009-2010 school year, CFS operated 87 after-school chess clubs for more than 3,400 children in Title 1 schools in Oregon and Southwest Washington. We are currently trying to replicate our program in other states.
Our program is proven to improve reading and math scores, improve study habits and raise student self-esteem.
One former student said that Chess For Success was instrumental in his choice to become an engineer and work at NASA. We have dozens of anecdotes like that!
CFS is extremely cost-effective. Every $75 that you give allows us to provide the program (including 50-hours of after school instruction) to an additional student.
