September vote for you! Here in Amherst, MA we breathed a sigh of relief when Hurricane Irene passed through with minimal damage. Other communities were not so lucky.

High in the Adirondacks, the small town of Upper Jay, NY suffered devastating flooding that wiped out their town. Families struggle to piece together their homes, and there is little refuge and comfort.
Public libraries are so essential to the community in times like these, yet for Upper Jay, the entire children’s collection was destroyed by the flooding. Only 5 books survived.

Reader to Reader has pledged to give thousands of books to this library and others who have lost books in the storm. This is the kind of work we do every day from our small office. Please support us with your donations this month to support the libraries and communities who need it most!

If you have any information about other libraries damaged by the storm, please message me with specific details from the library about their wishes and needs. We want to support those that support others, so help us reach out and bring these overburdened libraries some relief!

Happy May, friend!

Mother's Day is coming up, and perhaps you need a meaningful gift for the special woman in your life. Consider sending a Crowdrise E-Card informing her that in honor of her support of you, you're supporting other moms! This August we'll be holding an interactive literacy camp that teaches teen moms how to engage their kids in early literacy techniques, as well as how to cook healthy, inexpensive meals to keep the whole family healthy. These women want to support their kids as ably as any other mother, and the Athena Interactive Literacy Program helps them get their kids ready for education and healthy for life. Please consider supporting this program by donating to my "Reader to Reader" project and mentioning Athena!

Thanks,
Kat
