City of Hope's mission is to bring hope to millions around the globe. We’ve been dedicated to it for nearly 100 years. Hope is what defines humanity, the dogged determination to survive, to win out over afflictions. But when people face such formidable opponents as cancer, HIV/AIDS and diabetes, hope can be a difficult thing to hold on to. That’s where we come in.

At its core, our work is driven by compassion — for patients, survivors, their loved ones and the generations that will one day benefit from our research. For the patients and families who come in search of help, we focus on delivering top-quality, compassionate care. And that same spirit of compassion drives our researchers to pursue new breakthroughs and quickly bring the most promising treatments to the patients who need them most.

Our central focus is transforming basic scientific discoveries into new, better treatments for patients as quickly as possible. We call it “science saving lives.” Our innovative research has led to medical breakthroughs that save lives all over the world, including:
- Four of today’s most widely used cancer drugs — Herceptin, Rituxan, Avastin and Erbitux.
- Synthetic human insulin to benefit millions of people living with diabetes.
- A pioneering bone marrow transplantation program that is one of the largest, most successful programs of its kind. We have performed more than10,000 transplants (one of only two institutions in the country to achieve this milestone).
