Loud, energetic and obsessed with primates is probably how most people would describe me … I would agree with the second two. I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t interested in wildlife, my first word after mum and dad was aardvark (Take note any parents who want their children to be Doctors or Lawyers… do not start your children off with the ABC of animals!).
After years of studying and working with primates, I find myself directing CERCOPAN which is a fantastic organisation, but you don’t have to take my word for it (check out our link below). Nigeria for many people, probably conjures up memories of dubious emails received from incredibly generous widows who wish to impart 10% of their late husband's multi-million dollar fortunes in exchange for a few bank details! It would be fair to say that the nation has had a few smudges on its image in the past, but the reality is that it is a wonderful country, where magnificent rainforests and an incredible diversity of wildlife still remain. What else would a conservation minded girl want to do more than move out here and join the effort to save it!
Although this is my dream job, I’m not saying it’s all perfect. Imagine working by candlelight (not as romantic as it sounds), waking up regularly to find a cockroach straddling your face or being forced to go out in torrential rain with a spade to divert an approaching flood from hitting your office! Despite these challenges, Nigerians were voted the happiest people in the world…..so when in Rome.... :-)
