Clean Water in Uganda
Support our mission by creating your own fundraiser.
ClearWater Initiative implements simple, sustainable solutions for the provision of clean water to rural communities in northern Uganda. Less than 60% of the population has access to clean water within two kilometers of their house. ClearWater projects reduce disease and time spent in search of clean water, and provide villagers with the skills and training to lead healthier and more productive lives.
Our projects consist primarily of shallow and deep wells and protected springs. We emphasize community involvement, sanitation and hygiene education and maintenance training to empower communities to manage their water sources directly.
ClearWater was founded in 2007 by Benjamin Sklaver, a humanitarian and Army Reservist who had been stationed in northern Uganda following the decades of internal conflict in the region. Ben was killed in 2009 by a suicide bomber in Afghanistan during a subsequent posting. His friends and family continued to pursue ClearWater's mission and fulfill Ben's vision of providing hope to others in need, and have built ClearWater into the organization it is today.
We continue to believe that individuals can bring about positive change in the world, one step at a time, and in the process empower others. Our goal has remained the same as his: to bring water and, ultimately, health and opportunity to those far less fortunate than we are.
