HERE'S THE STORY:
CODMAN ACADEMY FOUNDATION wrote -
For the first time this year, Codman Academy was selected to participate in the John Hancock Boston Marathon Non-Profit Program. Each year, John Hancock donates guaranteed entries to select nonprofits, which use these entries to recruit individual runners to raise money for their cause. This year, Codman is one of those nonprofits. We are thrilled to be a part of the program and very excited to support our awesome team in reaching their fundraising and fitness goals!
Given Codman Academy's emphasis on health and wellness, this partnership is a natural fit. All funds raised through our marathon team will be applied toward Codman’s Wellness program, which encompasses our physical fitness program as well as our nutrition and health program. Last fall, Codman was recognized as the first and highest scoring school in the state to win the Gold-Level Massachusetts School Wellness Award, given by the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the MA Department of Public Health. We have been able to accomplish this without an on-site gym or athletic fields. In addition to providing sports teams such as soccer, volleyball, basketball, track, and baseball, Codman also offer activities such as swim lessons, tennis lessons, dance classes, and personal training programs at the Healthworks Foundation (for the girls) and the YMCA (for the boys).
Codman also has a student-run Nutrition Action Club, which works to educate the student body on nutrition and health initiatives. After launching a successful Junk Food Free program last year, where students, staff, and families pledged to give up junk food for the length of the trimester, we expanded this program to last throughout the entire school year this year. Building on last year’s successes, Codman offers healthy cooking classes and providing healthy snacks for students to aid this effort.
All donations will go toward the costs of operating our Wellness Program, including facility rental fees, modest coaching stipends, equipment, uniform costs, and healthy snacks. Thank you for supporting this valuable program!
