I love horse and dogs and wolves - equally! Although I am grounded in the science of endangered species recovery and restoration. the role of the red wolf in Cherokee mythology and legend intrigues me. The Cherokee called the red wolf "Wa'ya," and the wolf tells the People, "I am a hunter's hunter, my track a sign of hope, it's absence a warning." And the absence of the tracks and sign of wildlife is indeed a warning, one that people in increasing numbers are heeding. Or so I like to think, optimist that I am!
I hope everyone who finds the Red Wolf Coalition project on this awesome web site will help us with a donation - the small amounts are just as important as the big ones! One very cool benefit is that we will name a section of enclosure fencing after you if you want us to! I will never have my name in lights on a marquee, and I certainly will never get full billing on a magazine cover, but I'll take a little bronze plaque on a fence for the red wolves any old day!
