THE STORY:
NCC has joined other groups (mixture of conservation, education and other interests) in the collective effort to achieve Arizona State Trust Land Reform. The reform measure, if passed by the Arizona voters and approved by the US Congress, would identify or provide a process to identify trust land parcels that have values deserving of preservation. In the past efforts, the reform measures set some of those lands aside as permanent preserve and allowed others to be purchased at full appraised value without a public auction. The measure would also safeguard the beneficiaries’ interest, provide State Land Department with improved management tools plus options for funding; and include protections for the lessees.
