THE STORY:
Meet Monicah!
This amazing young woman is a fourth year Daraja Academy student who has proven herself to be an incredible leader both academically and socially. Monicah is one of the best students in her class. On my last trip to Daraja, I had the wonderful opportunity to coach Monicah as she prepared for the Nanyuki public speaking competition. She did a fabulous job and wow'd the judges.
Daraja Academy is a secondary boarding school for girls in Kenya. These girls are selected from hundreds of applicants to experience a once in a lifetime opportunity to continue their education. It only takes $2,500 to send a girl to Daraja. This provides them, not only an education (which is priceless), but shelter, nutritional meals and snacks, healthcare and school supplies. All these things we take for granted are unbelievably precious to the girls of Daraja.
On May 20th, I am going to jog/walk/crawl the seven miles of the San Francisco Bay to Breakers course to raise money for Monicah and the other Daraja girls. My goal is to raise $500 and any amount towards this is gratefully appreciated. I know it is not easy to donate in these tough times but this is a very special cause. Thank you!
