Me? I'm a Canadian film maker. One of those ones you don't know by name who runs around with a script he spent a few years getting just right, and a digital camera, and some volunteer actors.
But a number of aspiring actors and models I met were starving themselves for the "hollywood lean" look, at risk to their health. Because I was a muscular ex-military type, and older, it was difficult to get them to listen when I attempted to show them how dangrous it was for their health.
So in 2010 I starved myself for 100 days and blogged about it, demonstrating first-hand what extreme caloie deprivation does. Long story short I lost a lot of fat and muscle, but di bring some media attention to the matter. You can read about it on the project blog at www.thehungryi.org if you're interested.
Since I siad all I could say on that subject, I turned my attention to the number of friends I've lost to drunk driving over the years - either they were innocent bystanders, or in the car with a drunk driver, or driving while drunk themselves.
My city has no MADD volunteers and one of the highest rates of drinking and driving than the rest of Canada. Asking people to quit drinking is unrealistic, so I decided to go after the driving part. I started an organization to deliver alhocol to parties and homes, so people who have had a few drinks, run low, and are contemplating making a booze run have an alternative.
