I have been a runner all my life and hoped for a scholarship to a college while in high school, but my early start to parenthood brought all hopes to a screeching halt. In the '80s, you were told to drop out of school if you became a parent and were expected to join countless others who depend on government assistance. Rather than follow the traditional route of failure, I chose success. 28 years later, I have a high school diploma, Bachelors degree, Masters degree in Education with certifications in Counseling, Administration, and Supertendent. I have also been recently accepted into a doctoral program. Life has brought me many obstacles, but I always find a way to keep truckin' on.
Through the years (now in my old ones :0), I have added mileage to my runs and feel it is time to do the dreaded marathon. What a great opportunity to help others while helping myself by being a part of this group to bring awarenss to asthma and allergies. Being from deep south texas, the Mexican winds blow a lot of things our way and due to our high humidity, we have lots and lots of grass, weed, and tree pollen. MANY of my fellow community members, myself and my children, suffer from allergies and asthma and have had to endure a lot of naughty side effects of these diseases.
I hope my drive and determination inspires others to keep going and pursue your goals despite obstacles that are placed before you.
