BENEFITING: THAAKAT FOUNDATION

THE STORY:

The village of Kachra Kundi in Karachi, Pakistan is a garbage dump site where litter and sewage from the city is dumped daily. More than 300 families must endure living in this bubble of pollutants, waste and danger. A majority earn their livelihood from collecting plastics and hazardous waste and reselling it to recycling centers and industrial warehouses. Not only are the residents of Kachra Kundi deprived of civic facilities like electricity and clean water, but there had previously been zero access to education. 8 years ago our partner, Idara Al Khair brought in 16 teachers and lots of hope to help them live their dreams. Our goal for Kachra Kundi is to help provide an improved educational facility for 250 students (40% girls), which will be minutes away from their village but in an area free from disease and garbage.
