Education Through Music, Inc. (ETM) makes music education a reality for thousands of children who would otherwise have limited or no exposure to the arts. Since 1991, ETM has taught music as a subject in its own right and also as a means of supporting learning and development in other areas.
ETM partners with schools lacking sufficient funding for school-wide music education programs, and ensures that every student in the school recieves weekly music instruction. When possible, ETM will layer its foundation of general music classes with elective instrumental ensembles, such as band and orchestra, which are open to all interested students. Our work provides disadvantaged children with the skills to become better learners and the confidence to live in an increasingly challenging world.
During 2011-12, ETM's partner school program is serving 13,000 at-risk children in 25 inner-city schools across NYC, and our model is being adopted by schools and organizations across the country. ETM has licensed two organizations (ETM-LA and ETM-Bay Area) to replicate our model in Los Angeles and San Francisco Bay Area communities.
