THE STORY:
Dana Bingham wrote -
18 years ago my cousin, Abdul Bayyan Madyun passed away from Aplastic Anema. He was only 16 years old. Unfortunately, at the time, I was too young to be considered as a potential bone marrow donor to save his life. Today there are still many individuals like Abdul, waiting for a bone marrow donor.
As one of my goals for 2011, not a New Year's Resolution, I want to help raise funds for the Be The Match Registry, the National Marrow Donor Program. It costs approximately $100 to add each new member to the Be The Match Registry.... My goal is to raise over $1,100 in Loving Memory of Abdul.
I pledge to run at least 11 races (distance will vary with each race) for Be The Match cause during 2011. I hope to raise at least $100 for each race I complete.
I enjoy the start of a race as much as finishing it. I want to know that I ran start to finish to help others!
Races I will be running (Check back for updates as races are posted):
January 8 NYRR Fred Lebow Classic (5M), Central Park (Completed 54:33, 10:54 pace)
February 6 NYRR Gridiron (4M), Central Park (Completed 42:26, 10:36 pace)
February 26 NYRR Al Gordon Classic (4M), Prospect Park
March 6 Coogan's 5K, Washington Heights
March 27 NY Colon Cancer Challenge (4M), Central Park
