A spring vote for you!

With all the headlines screaming disaster and heartache, it's easy to get disheartened. Reader to Reader has supported schools damaged by tornadoes, public libraries devastated by flooding, and communities deeply affected by local tragedy. But each day we see examples of how much good is out there. That goodness is not always in the headlines. Sometimes, it's tucked quietly away, but it's there, and is the very reason we do this work--to bring books and other resources to the next generation that so richly deserves them.

Reader to Reader needs your help to get books in the hands of children across the country. Will you donate or join our team? Your support makes a difference!

Thanks,
Kat

Happy January vote! Wishing you and your projects the very best this year.

On Thanksgiving Day 2012, someone broke in to Hopi Mission School in Kykotsmovi Village, AZ and stole all their laptops. Without them, students have little access to technology, research, Internet and essential learning tools. No one deserves to lose learning opportunities and resources because of someone else's hurtful actions.

Reader to Reader is raising funds to not only replace these computers, but to keep them safe in a locking cart and prevent any future theft. If you can, please help me support the children of Hopi Mission School today. If you donate $17 or more, Crowdrise will automatically enter you for a raffle to get a $100 donation to your cause (and a $100 Roozt gift card!)

Hi Elizabeth,

October vote for you, just in time for Halloween! Wanna hear something scary? Children in low-income neighborhoods have access to only one age-appropriate book on average for every 300 children. Only ONE book! That impacts over 16,400,000 children in the United States.

Even more frightening, 80% of preschool and after-school programs serving low-income populations have no age-appropriate books for their children. Books are so important to a child’s development for learning, imagination and literacy.

Please help Reader to Reader get books into these communities. We donate hundreds of thousands of books each year directly to schools, after-school programs, classrooms, day care programs and other groups serving low-income children across the country. Your donation of $10 today will help us send a box full of much-needed books to6 children that deserve better.
Thanks for all your support, and spread the word!

Happy reading,
Kat (and the Reader to Reader team)

CROWDRISING SINCE: Apr 28, 2010
Stuff About Me:
I could not be more excited to spread the word and help fundraise for causes that I am very passionate about. Check these out -

Act Locally! As a volunteer for LA's BEST (Better Educated Students for Tomorrow), I see first hand how important it is to make sure that children in my LA community are being cared for after school when many parents are still at work. LA's BEST provides a safe, educational and fun after-school program that reduces involvement in gangs and increases graduation rates. Plus, kids learn to be healthy, active and motivated. I was a latch-key kid myself and I'm grateful to all those teachers, mentors, coaches and bosses who kept me on track in those crazy unsupervised hours after school. LA's BEST does that. But they need money to keep doing it - donate!

Act Nationally! On Mother's Day, I'll be walking in Oprah's Live Your Best Life Walk. As a spokesperson for L'Oreal, a sponsor of the walk, I'll be there to raise dollars and awareness for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. I've never done one of these before but walking seems like an easy, leisurely way to make a difference, am I right? If you can't make it to NYC for this event, you can still support all of us walkers by donating online.

Act Internationally! Partners in Health provides community-based healthcare in developing countries like Haiti in an effort to end preventable diseases like AIDS, malaria and TB. After reading about PIH and its founder, Dr. Paul Farmer in "Mountains Beyond Mountains" by Tracy Kidder, I was compelled to support this amazing organization. Read the book, you'll get hooked. Bill Gates did! Or just visit their web page. Haiti needs it more now than ever.

So .... checking out my projects below will greatly increase my happiness and your personal awesomeness so get to it! Isn't this a great way to fundraise and make amazing things happen?!
